Of men and planets

I cooked dinner for the almost Meirings at my house last night. Engaged couples are so easy to talk to and wine helps for those ‘oh my word I’m going to drown them they are so cute and happy’ moments. Needless to say I was quite unsteady by the end of the evening. The problem with being single once you’ve been in a couple for many years is that you are still fluent in Couple and so well versed in the customs and rituals that you end up making Couple plans…nothing quite as lovely as a games evening* with 3 couples and single you. Ai tog. I guess I will just drag a friend with me. Luckily I have a few awesome ones who might** not be freaked out by the setup.

I’ve been having such an awesome discussion with TH. Thanks to him I now understand Godly men better. A summary of the conversation in Q&A (and comment) format:

Q: Why are Godly men so very different from “normal” guys?

A: 2 Cor 5:17

C: Although a true answer not quite the one I was looking for but you knew that

C: Yes, but it is THE answer

C: yes yes

A: it is now “Christ in us” we are being ruled by a different set of desires

C: that is the answer I was looking for

Q: Why do Godly men seem to be paralysed most of the time?

A: that’s because you don’t want to live the same way you did before … but at times that ends in an overreaction towards the other end

Q: Why do Godly men (single and married) avoid events, decisions and communication with women?

A: Married men avoid things that will a) endanger their reputation b) endanger the trust of their wife c) steals time from their family that is due to them

A: Single men, when they have their biblical thinking caps on, avoid situations that could lead others down a wrong track by suggesting that there is more than what is … it has to do with honesty and shepherding the hearts of women

A: To be sure, that does not always work out that way… but the aim is there and many get it right. I want to be a man that is pleasing to God and not pleasing this world e.g. Jesus said that if I even look at another woman in lust I have committed adultery with her in my heart

A: So then the question is: how do I live a life that serves others but avoids such stumbling blocks? Hermit is not the answer, though. I think once you realize the power attraction has and how people can crumble under is you try and be weary not to make a sister fall. I am my brothers/sister’s keeper

If you didn’t nod at least once during the reading of that little exchange I will eat my pink hat.

  2. Insight of the day: Men are from Mars, Women from Venus and Godly men from Pluto
  3. State of the pool: Cool with light ripples that only barely disturb the calm

  5. Awesomest lines: The Poem
  6. Scripture line: The  book of Ruth sure is interesting

*How I met your mother reference – games evenings like weekend brunches and Builder’s Warehouse traipsing are firm foundations of Coupledom
